Marvin United Methodist Church
Pastor's Bio
Rod is a native of Durham, North Carolina and grew up in the Methodist
Church.  As an undergraduate he earned a degree in History and Political
Science at Duke University with the idea of going on to Law School.  Yet God
was calling him in other directions, so he soon found his way to Duke Divinity
School where he completed the Master of Divinity degree.  He subsequently
earned a PhD in New  Testament at UNC Chapel Hill during his beginning years
in the ministry.

Rod states “like many other Christians, I seek to use my skills and talents for
the glory of God.”  From 2001 to 2004 he had the privilege and honor of serving
in the British Methodist Conference while working at the University of
Birmingham, England, on behalf   of the United Bible Societies to prepare an
edition of
The Gospel  According to John that could be used by translators
working in Eastern Europe and Russia.

In the past Rod has been involved in the leadership of a number of Conference
activities: District Representative to the Board of Missions, Health & Welfare
Committee, Committee on Ecumenical  Relations, as well as special committees
appointed by the bishop.    He presently serves on the Conference Committee on
Minutes, the District Board of Ordained Ministry, and the District Board of
Missions.

Rod states “my hope for Marvin UMC is that it will continue to grow as a
beacon of hope to the people of the Gray’s Creek community and Cumberland
County, sharing the good news of Jesus Christ with people at home and abroad,
both like us and unlike us, and reaching forward in faith toward a closer walk
with God.”
