Church Calendar
The following are the recommendations for the program.   The minimum qualifications are
set forth as guidelines only and may be waived for specific individuals by a majority vote
of the Scholarship Selection Committee.

APPLICANT ELIGIBILITY:   Applicants must be a member of Marvin United Methodist
Church for at least one year prior to the application date.   While regular attendance and
participation in church activities is not mandatory, preference will be given to those who
are “active members.”  The Scholarship Selection Committee should also consider those
community activities in which the applicant is engaged which also may serve to benefit the
applicant and Marvin United Methodist Church..   There is no maximum age limit for the
applicant to be considered.    An individual is eligible to receive a scholarship a maximum
of four (4) times and preference should be given to first-time applicants.

TIMETABLE:   The Scholarship Selection Committee will review the availability of funds
during the month of December to determine the number and amount allocated to each
scholarship.   A request for applications will be made during the months of January and
February by way of the church bulletin, newsletter and any other method used to
disseminating church news.   Applications will be received during the month of March, the
deadline for submission being the last day of the month.   The applications will be
reviewed by the Committee during the month of April and the Scholarship(s) awarded
during the months of May or June as the Committee deems appropriate.  A possible
award day might be Graduation Sunday, however, this may not always be practical.

SCHOLARSHIP:   The scholarship is awarded as an annual award to defray the expenses
associated with attendance at a four-year college or university, junior college, community
college or technical school in pursuit of undergraduate studies.  Scholarships will not be
awarded for graduate school.   The amount of each scholarship will be based upon the
amount of income earned by the scholarship fund during the previous year.  No single
scholarship may exceed $500.00 and the Committee will not award more than $1,000.00
in any one year.   This amount may be adjusted as the amount available to the
Committee grows.  Awards will be made directly to the individual in a single payment once
an acceptance letter from the institution of higher learning is received by the Committee.

APPLICATION:   No scholarship will be awarded to any individual who has not submitted
an application.   A suggested application is attached but it may be modified as deemed
necessary by the Committee.

SCHOLARSHIP SELECTION COMMITTEE:    Administrative responsibility for the
scholarship program has been assumed by its Director, David B. Craig, who has been
selected by the Elliott Family and the Family reserves the right to change the individual
holding that position at any time.    The Committee will number five (5) members of the
church; the Director and two members each selected by the United Methodist Men and
the United Methodist Women.  The Committee will meet in December of each year to
evaluate the administrative procedures of the program and select the amount and
number of scholarships to be awarded.   The committee will meet again in April to
consider any applications which have been submitted.   The Committee will review all
Applications received in closed session and select the recipient(s).   All Committee
discussions and the contents of any application will be held in the strictest confidence
and the award announcement is reserved for the Rena Elliott Family
